The eighth book of Bill Myers' Forbidden Doors series takes Becka Williams and her boyfriend, Rick Riordan, to the set of a vampire movie, where the lead actress is in need of help after being attacked by what she claims is a real vampire. At first Becka is skeptical, but various occurrences and sightings of her own begin to make her wonder if one of the undead is truly terrorizing Transylvania.
Meanwhile, Ryan is spending more and more time with the actress, and Becka has trouble fighting her jealousy. As the attacks grow more serious, Becka and Ryan will need to work together and use their eyes of faith to uncover what is going on.

This was a great book! I loved all the stories in this series,but this story is the one most likely to happen.
James Riordan wasn't at his best when he wrote this, but it certainly is better than most. It involves a little more romance than usual in this book, but the scare isn't as complex or exciting. Overall, it was a pretty good story line. Check out some of the earlier books that were written by the original author, Bill Myers.
The Forbidden Doors series has been one I normally enjoy. However, it usually incorporates things a little more realistic than fighting off vampires in Transylvania. This book is very basic as vampire stories go. There's no intense suspense or drama, except for very near the end. It's on an easy reading level, but I doubt it would appeal to the 9-12 age range.
I disagree with many parts of Bill Meyers's work. His constant stressing that only Christians can be trusted becomes radical. Christians are never bad guys in his books, and I dislike the prejudice.
It's worth checking out, but I'd recommend Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the Fearless series over Forbidden Doors.
Once again James Riordan takes up the task of writing Forbidden Doors and fails. This time Becka and Scott fly off to Transylvania to save a young actress from a vampire that is stalking her.
These books are supposed to promote prayer and a closeness to G-d but this one is so off the mark that there isn't even any prayer in it! Obviously the author (James Riordan) has little idea of how movies are made. It is unlikely that the kids would be allowed to poke around the sets. Such a low-budget production would not go to the expense of filming in Transylvania unless they actually filmed on location and not in a studio. Teens in films are usually played by older actors/actresses. Z mentions that vampire legends go back several centuries (they actually go back several millennia with the oldest vampire tale being found in an ancient book called The Testament of King Solomon from the 1st century (yes, the first vampire story is Jewish)). There is no mention of the Christian belief that vampires are the result of a suicide at a crossroads. Still no mention of the kids being out of school. And more and more and more...
I think that if Mr. Riordan (the same last name as Becka's friend Ryan) is going to take over writing this series he should check his facts as a believable world makes a better foundation for the goals of this series. This one may be the worst of the lot.
I read this book awhile ago, but I still remember it well. This series (Forbidden Doors) is supposed to encourage youth to stay away from the occult. But what are the odds teens would go off to Transylvania to hunt down vampires?
Not that this book was boring. It wasn't. But it has a lot of flaws that are simply too obvious to ignore.
For one thing, the plot was unrealistic. Two teens, Becca and Ryan, are instructed by a stranger on the internet to go visit a movie set in Transylvania. Their mission? Track down the vampire that is stalking the lead actress.Sure.
Why did Bill Myers have to send them to Transylvania? He should have set it in California, their hometown.They DO make movies in CA!
The rest of the book was okay, but something wasn't quite right. It lacked that magical quality that was present in the original series.And when you get down to it, it just wasn't SCARY. Whenever the character see a shadowy figure, they assume it's "the vampire". Not to mention, the ending was a disappointment.
Too bad Bill Myers is losing his touch. Forbidden Doors just isn't what it used to be.
This is the 8th book of the series "Forbidden Doors". The title is "The Undead".
(Background info Becka and Scott Williams, along with their mother, move to California after having spent many years in the jungles of South America. Their dad flew missionaries into South America and his plane went down. Becka and Scott are going to school in California and making friends. This loving and awesome Christian family has a cozy and warm home atmosphere.)
In this particular book, Z sends Becka, her mother, and her boyfriend Ryan on a mission to Transylvania to help a young girl named Jaimie who is involved with vampires. Are the vampires real or fake? Will Becka's and Ryan's faith be enough to fight the vampires?
I didn't find the coziness in this book that I found in the others. The atmosphere wasn't good. I was so sick of hearing about vampires, bats, and movie making. I've never been one to enjoy books about vampires or bats or anything in the fantasy world. I thought I would never get through this book. This book is the weakest one of the series, and the hardest to get through. If I ever read another book with vampires or bats, I will croak.
Another reason I didn't enjoy this book was because of the moving making. I despise movies with a passion, whether they are a finished product or in the making. Books that revolve around movie-making scenes bore me to pieces. I am so bored hearing people rehearse their lines. If I ever read another book about movie making, or if I ever have to hear one more person rehearsing their lines, I will scream.
The plot of the book is good; I realize the importance of vampires in getting the message across, but I felt too much of the book is on the vampires and the movie, and not enough on the cozy family.
The ending of the book is awesome. I give the book credit for that. After drudging through a bad atmosphere, I got a good ending.
I felt bad about only giving this book three stars. I very enthusiastically gave five stars to all the other books in this series so far, but I couldn't honestly do so for this book.
Five stars for Becka (I love this Christian girl, even though I got upset with her in "The Deceived"), the encouragement (it was there, but not as strongly as in the other books), the plot, and the ending.
One star for the atmosphere. (All that movie-making, rehearsing lines, vampires, and bats have got to go.)
I compromised and gave it three stars.
If someone is new to this series, I wouldn't recommend this book to get started on - you might not read any more after this one.
